Hug-a-Tree and Survive is an AdventureSmart program that helps lost children survive in the woods. It teaches children how to avoid getting lost in the woods, and what to do should they become lost.

Completing a trip plan is extremely important. It explains your destination, travel route, equipment and expected return time. It is vital information to assist authorities searching for you in the event of an emergency.

Smither Mountain Biking Association
The Smithers Mountain Bike Association is a member based organization that supports the mountain bike community in Smithers through trail development, trail maintenance and events.
We do it because we love riding.
Smithers Whitewater Club
The Bulkley Valley Kayak and Canoe Club has been active since the 1980s when it was founded to secure and maintain access to Tatlow Falls, a unique ‘park and play’ surf wave on the Bulkley River near Smithers. Since then, our membership has grown to include a wide variety of people who all share a passion for exploring the unique whitewater opportunities in the Bulkley Valley. Our mission is to promote safe and responsible non-motorized river recreation, and also continued access to the various sections of river that are enjoyed by paddlers in the Bulkley Valley.
Bulkley Valley Backpackers
The mission of the Bulkley Valley Backpackers Society is to:
1) provide a range of opportunities for self-powered backcountry activities throughout the year for it's members, guests and visitors. These activities mainly include hiking, ski touring and snowshoe touring.
2) improve the backcountry experience through trail and infrastructure development, enhancement and maintenance.
3) advocate for the interests of backcountry recreationists regarding land management decisions.
4) conserve historic trails and features.
5) provide social occasions for members to get together.
Avalanche Canada
Avalanche Canada is a non-government, not-for-profit organization dedicated to public avalanche safety. We issue daily avalanche forecasts throughout the winter for much of the mountainous regions of western Canada, providing this free information via our website and our app, Avalanche Canada Mobile. We also coordinate and deliver avalanche awareness and education programs, provide curriculum and support to instructors of Avalanche Canada training programs, act as a central point-of-contact for avalanche information, and work closely with many different avalanche research projects, both at home and abroad.
